Activity 1:
Read a non-fiction paragraph (from a book or article). Write the main idea in your book.
Example: Paragraph about bees → Main idea: Bees help pollinate plants.
Activity 2:
Write 3 key details from the same paragraph that support the main idea.
Example: Bees collect nectar, they fly between flowers, they help plants grow.
Week 2
๐ Combine Main Ideas from Two Texts
Activity 1:
Read two short texts (can be pages from books or online articles). Write one sentence for each main idea.
Example: One about volcanoes, one about earthquakes.
Main ideas: Volcanoes form from hot magma; Earthquakes are caused by moving plates.
Activity 2:
Now combine the ideas. Write a paragraph linking them.
Example: Both volcanoes and earthquakes are caused by changes under Earth’s surface.
Week 3
๐ฆ Themes in Myths, Fables and Folktales
Activity 1:
Read a myth, fable, or folktale (e.g. The Boy Who Cried Wolf). Write the theme or lesson.
Example: Always tell the truth.
Activity 2:
Write your own short fable. Use animals and include a clear message.
Example: A lazy ant misses the food train. Moral: Don’t wait until it’s too late.
Week 4
๐ฏ Author’s Purpose (PIE: Persuade, Inform, Entertain)
Activity 1:
Choose 3 different texts: a story, a leaflet, and an advert. Write the author’s purpose for each.
Example: Story – Entertain, Leaflet – Inform, Advert – Persuade.
Activity 2:
Write your own two-paragraph texts:

Week 5
⏳ Order of Events in Informational Texts
Activity 1:
Read a non-fiction text that gives instructions or history. Write 4 steps or events in order.
Example: How bread is made – 1. Mix ingredients, 2. Let dough rise, etc.
Activity 2:
Write instructions for something you know how to do (e.g. making a sandwich or tying a shoelace). Use time-order words: First, Next, Then, Finally.

๐ Compare and Contrast in Informational Texts
Activity 1:
Read two non-fiction texts or book pages. Write 2 things they have in common and 2 differences.
Example: A text on cats vs dogs – Both are pets. Cats are quieter, dogs need more walks.
Activity 2:
Create a Venn diagram in your book to show the similarities and differences.
Week 7

Activity 1:
Read a paragraph. Find one cause and one effect.
Example: Cause – It rained heavily. Effect – The football match was cancelled.
Activity 2:
Write 2 examples from your own life using the words “because” or “so.”
Example: I wore a coat because it was cold.
Week 8

Activity 1:
Read a story. Write the problem and the solution.
Example: Problem – The bike broke. Solution – He fixed the chain.
Activity 2:
Write your own mini-problem and solution.

Activity 1:
Choose a setting (e.g. the beach). Write one sentence each for what you might see, hear, smell, taste, and feel.
